The actual title of the essay was:

Liturgy and its ritual are absurd when they have lost touch with the lives of the people who are supposed to be celebrating it.
Discuss with reference to the contribution of the human sciences to either:
a) The ministry to the sick
b) Death and Christian burial.
This essay will look at option B - Death and Christian burial.

I put so much effort into this that I was very disappointed in the end mark. I read and read, I interview the vicar who married Gail and myself, I even had to dig into Frued and psychology.

This was my first experience of the harder you work and the more of yourself you put into an academic essay the lower the mark. I feel it is wrong that if you just summarise someone else’s answer to a question you score well, if you do the work yourself you do badly. There is of course the other way to look at this and that is I really am not an academic and lack the skill, intellect and probably the desire to really excel.

Anyway, what I can say is that I learnt a lot from research and am glad I put the time in.

My mark for this essay was 57%.
